Although heaters & furnaces are designed to keep you nice and warm when it’s cold outside, they can also cost you a fortune during the winter months. At B&R Heating & Cooling, we have a few tips to offer if you want to stay comfortable in your home and keep your heating bills low at the same time.
1. Program Your Thermostat- Some heaters & furnaces, particularly newer ones, can be programmed so that your heater keeps your home at a certain temperature during various time periods. We recommend turning your heat down when you’re away from home and scheduling your thermostat to turn the heat up again about 30 minutes before you return.
2. Turn off the Heat in Certain Rooms- Do you have a few rooms in your home that you don’t use very often? If this is the case, consider shutting off the heat in these unused rooms and closing the vents.
3. Use Space Heaters- If you find yourself getting cold as you work in your office or watch television in your front room, but don’t necessarily want to turn the heat up, consider adding a few space heaters to your home. These devices can provide a constant stream of heat that’s very cost-effective.
4. Make Sure Your Heater is Properly Maintained- Heaters & furnaces that aren’t properly maintained will often work below maximum efficiency, resulting in higher heating bills. Luckily, you have us at B&R Heating & Cooling on your side to maintain and repair your heating system during the winter and even into the spring.
